UCF QB Dillon Gabriel and Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending September 14.
About the Award: This is the 16th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DILLON GABRIEL, UCF
Freshman, Quarterback, Mililani, HI/Mililani
True freshman Dillon Gabriel passed for 347 yards and four touchdowns as 17th-ranked UCF defeated Stanford, 45-27. Gabriel completed 22-of-30 passes, including scoring tosses of 28, 38, 38 and 1 yard to help the Knights improve to 3-0.
Notes: Dillon Gabriel is the fourth UCF player to receive Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since quarterback McKenzie Milton (Sept. 30, 2018).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ISAIAH SIMMONS, CLEMSON
RS Junior, Linebacker, Olathe, KS/Olathe North
Isaiah Simmons recorded eight tackles (3.5 for losses) and two quarterback sacks as top-ranked Clemson (3-0) defeated Syracuse, 41-6. It was the Tigers’ 18th consecutive victory.
Notes: Isaiah Simmons is the ninth Clemson player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the second this season (RB Travis Etienne, Sept. 1).

Walter Camp, “The Father of American
football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale
University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play
from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the
restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation
