LSU QB Joe Burrow and California LB Evan Weaver Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending September 7.
About the Award: This is the 16th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JOE BURROW, LSU
Senior, Quarterback, Athens, OH/Athens
Joe Burrow passed for 471 yards and four touchowns as sixth-ranked LSU (2-0) defeated ninth-ranked Texas, 45-38, on the road. Burrow completed 31-of-39 passes and his 471 passing yards were the second-most single-game total in LSU history.
Notes: Joe Burrow is the ninth LSU player to receive Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since former Tiger running back Derrius Guice (Nov. 27, 2016).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
EVAN WEAVER, CALIFORNIA
Senior, Linebacker, Gonzaga, WH/Gonzaga
Evan Weaver recorded a career-high 18 tackles (14 solo), including two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble as California defeated Pac-12 rival Washington, 20-19. With the victory, the Golden Bears improved to 2-0.
Notes: Evan Weaver is the fifth California player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since former Golden Bear linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk (Oct. 15, 2017).

Walter Camp, “The Father of American
football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale
University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play
from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the
restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation
