Stanford RB/KR Christian McCaffrey and Michigan State LB Jon Reschke Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending November 21.

About the Award: This is the 12th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.




Sophomore, Running Back/Kick Returner, Castle Rock, CO/Valor Christian

Christian McCaffrey had a school-record 389 all-purpose yards as 15th-ranked Stanford defeated California, 35-22. McCaffrey rushed for 192 yards, caught a 49-yard touchdown reception, and had a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the victory.   With the win, Stanford improved to 9-2, 8-1 in the Pac-12.


Notes: Christian McCaffrey is the fourth Stanford player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since former Cardinal linebacker Shayne Skov on November 18, 2012.




Sophomore, Linebacker, Sterling Heights, MI/Brother Rice

Jon Reschke recorded six tackles, one quarterback sack and one quarterback hurry as 9th-ranked Michigan State (10-1) defeated #2 Ohio State, 17-14, in a pivotal Big Ten matchup. Reschke’s play led a Spartan defense that allowed the Buckeyes just 132 yards of total offense in the contest.


Notes: Jon Reschke is the fourth Michigan State player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since former Spartan linebacker Denicos Allen on November 3, 2013.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
