Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Arizona State’s Merlin Robertson Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending September 8.
About the Award: This is the 15th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KYLER MURRAY, OKLAHOMA
Redshirt Junior, Quarterback, Allen, TX/Allen HS
Kyler Murray accounted for five touchdowns (3 passing and 2 rushing) as sixth-ranked Oklahoma defeated UCLA, 49-21. Murray completed 19-of-33 passes for 306 yards and rushed for 69 more yards as the Sooners improved to 2-0.
Notes: Kyler Murray is the seventh Oklahoma player to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the third quarterback to be honored (Sam Bradford, 9/9/07 and Baker Mayfield, 11/5/17).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MERLIN ROBERTSON, ARIZONA STATE
Freshman, Linebacker, Gardena, CA/Junipero Serro
A true freshman, linebacker Merlin Robertson recorded nine tackles (8 solo), 1.5 quarterback sacks, one forced fumble and one pass break-up as Arizona State defeated 15th-ranked Michigan State, 16-13.
Notes: Merlin Robertson is the third Arizona State player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, joining former Sun Devils Andrew Walter (QB, 11/7/04) and Jaelen Strong (WR, 10/5/14).

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
