Texas QB Sam Ehlinger and Louisiana LB Ferrod Gardner Named Walter Camp FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending September 12.
About the Award: This is the 17th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SAM EHLINGER, TEXAS
Senior, Quarterback, Austin. TX/Westlake HS
Sam Ehlinger completed 25-of-33 passes for 428 yards and five touchdowns as Texas rolled to a 59-3 season-opening victory over UTEP. All five of Ehlinger’s touchdown passes came in the first half.

Notes: Sam Ehlinger is the ninth Longhorn to earn Walter Camp National Player of Week honors (since 2004) and the first since he won the award on October 7, 2018.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FERROD GARDNER, LOUISIANA
RS Senior, Linebacker, Dayton, OH/Trotwood-Madison
Ferrod Gardner posted nine tackles and one quarterback sack as Louisiana defeated 23rd-ranked Iowa State, 31-14, in the season opener for both teams. It was the Ragin’ Cajuns first road win over top-25 opponent in school history.
Notes: Ferrod Gardner is the second Louisiana player to earn the recognition since 2004, joining former Ragin’ Canjun running back Tyrell Fenroy (Oct. 5, 2008).

Walter Camp, “The Father of American
football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale
University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from
scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the
restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation
