New Haven, CT – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending October 4.
About the Award: This is the 11th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAELEN STRONG, ARIZONA STATE
Redshirt Junior, Wide Receiver, Philadelphia, PA/West Philadelphia Catholic
Jaelen Strong had 10 receptions for 202 yards and three touchdowns, including a 46-yard Hail Mary scoring catch a as time expired to lift the Sun Devils to a 38-34 victory over 16th-ranked USC. With the win, Arizona State improved to 4-1, 2-1 in the Pac 12.
Notes: Jaelen Strong is the second ASU player since 2004 to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors, joining former Sun Devil quarterback Andrew Walter (Nov. 7, 2004).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RICHIE BROWN, MISSISSIPPI STATE

Richie Brown tied a school record with three interceptions as 12th-ranked Mississippi State defeated 6th-ranked Texas A&M, 48-31. Brown added three tackles as the Bulldogs improved to 5-0, 2-0 in the SEC.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
