Georgia’s Todd Gurley and UCLA’s Eric Kendricks Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN
New Haven, CT – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN (www.generationucan.com/waltercamp), for games ending August 31.
About the Award: This is the 11th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
TODD GURLEY, GEORGIA
Junior, Running Back, Tarboro, NC/Tarboro
Todd Gurley set a school record with 293 all-purpose yards as 12th-ranked Georgia opened the 2014 season with a 45-21 victory over 16th-ranked Clemson. Gurley rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns (23, 18 and 51 yards), and added a 100-yard kickoff return for a score in the Bulldogs’ victory.
Notes: Todd Gurley is the ninth UGA player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004. Last season, Aaron Murray was a two-time Offensive POW winner (Sept. 8 and Sept. 29). Former Bulldog linebacker Jarvis Jones was a three-time defensive recipient.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ERIC KENDRICKS, UCLA
Redshirt Senior, Linebacker, Fresno, CA/Hoover
Eric Kendricks had a big day as seventh-ranked UCLA opened up the season with a 28-20 road victory at Virginia. Kendricks posted a team-high 16 tackles (5 solo) and forced one fumble. He also returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown – one of three defensive scores for the Bruins in the contest.
Notes: Eric Kendrick is the fifth Bruin to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004. Linebacker Anthony Barr earn Defensive POW honors on Sept. 15, 2013.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
