Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss and Penn State’s Amare Campbell Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 14 (Dec. 2)

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending November 29.

About the Award: This is the 22nd year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season.   It is the nation’s longest running Player of Week award.

                                               

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

TRINIDAD CHAMBLISS, OLE MISS

Senior, Quarterback, Grand Rapids, MI

Trinidad Chambliss completed 23-of-34 passes for 359 yards and four touchdowns as No. 7 Ole Miss (11-1, 7-1 in SEC) defeated Mississippi State, 38-19, in the Egg Bowl.   It was Chambless’ seventh 300-yard passing game and he earned SEC Co-Offensive Player of Week honors.

Notes: It is the 15th time since 2004 (and second time this season – LB Anthony Hill, Oct. 27) that a Texas player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. 

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

AMARE CAMPBELL, PENN STATE

Junior, Linebacker, Manassas, VA

Amare Campbell posted a game-high 14 tackles (5 solo) and 0.5 quarterback sacks as Penn State became bowl eligible with a 40-36 victory at Rutgers. Campbell’s fourth-quarter fumble recovery, which he returned 61 yards for a touchdown, was the game-winning score.

Notes: It is the 11th time since 2004 (and first since defensive Abdul Carter, Nov. 12, 2024) that a Penn State player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors.

Texas’ Arch Manning and Wisconsin’s Darryl Peterson III Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 13 (Nov. 25)

ARCH MANNING

Sophomore, Quarterback, New Orleans, LA

Arch Manning became the first Texas quarterback since Bobby Layne in 1946 to record touchdowns (passing, rushing and receiving) three different ways in a game.  Manning threw for 389 yards and four touchdowns and added a three-yard rushing score along with a 54-yard touchdown reception as the Longhorns (8-3) defeated Arkansas, 52-37.

Notes: It is the 15th time since 2004 (and second time this season – LB Anthony Hill, Oct. 27) that a Texas player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. 

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DARRYL PETERSON III, WISCONSIN

Graduate Student, Outside Linebacker, Akron, OH

Darryl Peterson III recorded six tackles, three quarterback sacks, two pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and forced one fumble as Wisconsin defeated No. 21 Illinois, 27-10.  Peterson, who was also selected as the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week, was the first Badger player to record three sacks in a game since 2021.   Peterson led a Wisconsin defense that held Illinois to just 50 rushing yards.

 

Notes: It is the eighth time since 2004 (and first since former linebacker Leo Chenal on Oct. 24, 2021) that a Wisconsin player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors.

KEWAN LACY, OLE MISS

Sophomore, Running Back, Dallas, TX

Kewan Lacy rushed for a career-high 224 yards (on 31 carries) and three touchdowns as No. 6 Ole Miss defeated Florida, 34-24.   It was the eighth-most rushing yards in Ole Miss single-game history, and Lacy, who was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, set the school season record for touchdowns in the contest.  With the win, the Rebels improved to 10-1, 6-1 in the SEC.

Notes: It is the seventh time since 2004 that an Ole Miss player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. Lacy is the first Rebel honoree since

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

TAE JOHNSON, NOTRE DAME

Freshman, Safety, Fort Wayne, IN

 Freshman safety Tae Johnson was all over the field for No. 9 Notre Dame in its 37-15 win over No. 22 Pittsburgh. Johnson had one interception in which he returned for a touchdown, five tackles and a shared tackle for loss in the contest. Johnson led the Irish defense which stifled a Pitt offense all afternoon, which entered the day averaging 39.7 points (to just 15 points), 426.8 yards per game (to just 219 yards).  With the win, Notre Dame improved to 8-2.

Notes: It is the second time this season a Notre Dame player has earned Walter Camp National Player of Week honors (fellow Irish Safety Leonard Moore was honored on Oct. 7) and 17th overall since the award was started in 2004.

Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia and Texas Tech’s Jacob Rodriguez Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 11 (Nov. 11)

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DIEGO PAVIA, VANDERBILT

Graduate Student, Quarterback, Albuquerque, NM

Diego Pavia accounted for a career-best 489 yards of offense in the 15/16th ranked Commodores 45-38 overtime victory against Auburn.  Pavia threw for a career-high 377 yards (and three touchdowns including the game winner in OT) and had 112 rushing yards (and one touchdown). He became the first Vanderbilt player to register 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a game. The win moves Vanderbilt to 8-2, which is the first time registering eight wins in a season since 2013.

Notes: It is the fifth time since 2004 (and second time this season for Pavia) that a Vanderbilt player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors.  Pavia was also recognized on Sept. 30.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JACOB RODRIGUEZ, TEXAS TECH

Junior, Linebacker, Wichita Falls, TX

 Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez led No. 8 Texas Tech with a team-high 14 tackles along with one interception and one fumble recovery in a 29-7 victory over No. 7 BYU. Rodriguez had his hand in two of Texas Tech’s three takeaways in the win as the Red Raiders became the third FBS team this season to hold a top-10 team to fewer than 10 points.  Texas Tech also allowed just 67 rushing yards, marking the first time the Cougars were held under 100 yards on the ground all season.

Notes: It is the 10th time since 2004 (and third this season) that a Texas Tech player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. Rodriguez was honored on Sept. 23 along with teammate Cameron Dickey on Oct. 14.

NC State’s CJ Bailey and SMU’s Ahmaad Moses Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 10 (Nov. 4)

CJ BAILEY, NORTH CAROLINA STATE

Sophomore, Quarterback, Miami, FL

CJ Bailey accounted for 386 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in North Carolina State’s 48-36 victory against No. 8 Georgia Tech.  Bailey completed 24-of-32 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns and added 34 rushing yards and one more score.  He completed passes to eight different Wolfpack receivers.  With the win, the Wolfpack improved to 5-4.

Notes: It is the seventh time since 2004 that a NC State player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors.  Bailey is the first Wolfpack honoree since former cornerback Aydan White (Sept. 18, 2022).

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

AHMAAD MOSES, SMU

Senior, Safety, Arlington, TX

 The ACC Defensive Player of the Week, Ahmaad Moses led SMU with a career-high 15 tackles, including 2.0 tackles-for-loss, in the Mustangs’ 26-20 overtime win over No. 10 Miami.  Moses also had two interceptions in the win, tying his career high. This is the highest ranked win for SMU since defeating No. 6 Pitt, 7-3, in the Cotton Bowl on January 1, 1983.  With the victory, SMU improved to 6-3, 4-1 in the ACC.

Notes: It is the 14th time a Texas player has earned Walter Camp National Player of Week honors since 2004.  It is the second time Hill, Jr., has been recognized as National Defensive Player of Week – he was also honored on Oct. 14, 2024.

Georgia Tech’s Haynes King and Texas’ Anthony Hill, Jr. Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 9 (Oct. 28)

RS Senior, Quarterback, Longview, TX

Haynes King accounted for 395 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in Georgia Tech’s 41-16 victory against ACC-rival Syracuse.  King completed 25-of-31 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns and added 91 rushing yards and two more scores.  With the win, the Yellowjackets improved to 8-0 for the first time since 1996, and 5-0 in the ACC.

Notes: It is the third time since 2004 that a Georgia Tech player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. King joins former Yellowjackets’ Jamal Golden (DB, Oct. 25, 2015) and Justin Thomas (RB, Oct. 29, 2016).

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ANTHONY HILL, JR., TEXAS

Junior, Linebacker, Denton, TX

Anthony Hill, Jr. led the Longhorns with career highs of 2.5 quarterback sacks and four quarterback pressures and recorded his second-highest total of 3.5 tackles for loss, to go along with one forced fumble and 10 tackles in Texas’ 45-38 overtime win on the road at Mississippi State.  Hill led a Longhorn defensive unit that held MSU to 14 combined points in the second half and overtime. With the victory, Texas improved to 6-2, 3-1 in the SEC.

Notes: It is the 14th time a Texas player has earned Walter Camp National Player of Week honors since 2004.  It is the second time Hill, Jr., has been recognized as National Defensive Player of Week – he was also honored on Oct. 14, 2024.

Georgia’s Gunner Stockton and Connecticut’s Bryun Parham Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 8 (Oct. 21)

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending October 18.

About the Award: This is the 22nd year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season.   It is the nation’s longest running Player of Week award.

GUNNER STOCKTON, GEORGIA

RS Junior, Quarterback, Tiger, GA

Gunner Stockton completed 26-of-31 passes for 289 yards and threw for four touchdowns (with zero interceptions), along with 59 rushing yards and one rushing score as No. 9 Georgia rallied past No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels, 43-35. Stockton led the Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 in SEC) to 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Notes: It is the 12th time since 2004 that a Georgia player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. Stockton is first Bulldog honoree since former quarterback Stetson Bennett was recognized on September 4, 2022.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BRYUN PARHAM, CONNECTICUT

RS Senior, Linebacker, Long Beach, CA

Bryun Parham had a game-high 14 tackles (9 solo) and two quarterback sacks as Connecticut (5-2) defeated Boston College, 38-23.   Parham led a Husky defensive unit that recorded seven sacks on the day.  It was UConn’s first win over a Power Four opponent on the road since 2012.

Notes: It is the second time a Connecticut player has earned Walter Camp National Player of Week honors since 2004.  Parham joins former Husky linebacker Sio Moore (October 31, 2010) as a player of Week honoree.

Texas Tech’s Cameron Dickey and Indiana’s Aiden Fisher Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 7 (Oct. 14)

CAMERON DICKEY, TEXAS TECH

Sophomore, Running Back, Austin, TX

Cameron Dickey rushed for a career-best 263 yards (on 21 carries) and two touchdowns as ninth-ranked Texas Tech defeated Kansas State, 42-17.  It was the fifth-highest single-game rushing total in school history.  Dickey scored on runs of 71 and 55 yards as the Red Raiders improved to 6-0, 3-0 in the Big 12.

Notes: It is the ninth time since 2004 (and second this season) that a Texas Tech player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. Dickey joins teammate and linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who was honored on Sept. 23

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

AIDEN FISHER, INDIANA

Senior, Linebacker, Fredericksburg, VA

Aiden Fisher had a game-high 13 tackles and 1.5 quarterback sacks to lead seventh-ranked Indiana to a 30-20 victory at third-ranked Oregon.  Fisher anchored a Hoosier defensive unit that held the Ducks to their fewest yards of total offense since 2021.  With the victory, Indiana improved to 6-0, 3-0 in the Big Ten.

Notes: It is the third time an Indiana player has earned Walter Camp National Player of Week honors since 2004.  Fisher joins Micah McFadden (Dec. 6, 2020) and Mikail Kamara (Nov. 5, 2024).

UCLA’s Nico Iamaleava and Notre Dame’s Leonard Moore Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 6 (Oct. 7)

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending October 4.

About the Award: This is the 22nd year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season.   It is the nation’s longest running Player of Week award.

                                               

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NICO IAMALEAVA, UCLA

RS Sophomore, Quarterback, Long Beach, CA

Nico Iamaleava accounted for all five of UCLA’s touchdowns (2 passing, 3 rushing) and 294 yards of total offense (166 passing, 128 rushing) to lead the Bruins to a 42-37 upset over No. 7 Penn State. It marked UCLA’s first home win over a Top-10 team since 2007. In the victory, Iamaleava set single-game career highs in rushing (128 yards) and rushing touchdowns (three).

Notes: It is the ninth time since 2004 that a UCLA player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors. Iamaleava is the first UCLA honoree since former quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (Sept. 22, 2019).

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LEONARD MOORE, NOTRE DAME

Sophomore, Corner Back, Round Rock, TX

Leonard Moore had two interceptions, forced one fumble and totaled six tackles in Notre Dame’s 28-7 win over Boise State. The sophomore was also responsible for two third-down stops on the day. His second interception sealed the game for the Irish, allowing the offense to kneel out the clock to secure the 28-7 win. Moore and the Irish (3-2) defense stymied a Boise State offense, holding it to 200 yards less than its season average.

Notes: It is the 16th time a Notre Dame player has earned Walter Camp National Player of Week honors since 2004.  It is the fourth straight season a ND defensive back has earned Defensive Player of Week honors. Moore joins former teammates Benjamin Morrison (Nov. 6, 2022) and Xavier Watts (Oct. 17, 2023 and Dec. 3, 2024).

 

Considered the “Father of American Football,” Walter Camp introduced the play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side in 1880.   Nine years later, Mr. Camp, then the Yale University head coach, selected the first-ever college football All-America team. Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia and Ohio State’s Caden Curry Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week – Week 5 (Sept. 30)

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending September 27.

About the Award: This is the 22nd year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season.   It is the nation’s longest running Player of Week award.

                                               

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DIEGO PAVIA, VANDERBILT

Graduate Student, Quarterback, Albuquerque, NM

Diego Pavia accounted for 400 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in Vanderbilt’s 55-35 win over Utah State.  He completed 26-of-34 passes for 321 yards and a school-record-tying five touchdowns.  Pavia also led the Commodores with 79 rushing yards and one touchdown on just nine carries. Vanderbilt is 5-0 for the first time since 2008.

Notes: It is the fourth time since 2004 that a Vanderbilt player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of Week honors.  Pavia is the first Vandy honoree since former All-America linebacker Zach Cunningham (Oct. 15, 2016).

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CADEN CURRY, OHIO STATE

Senior, Defensive End, Greenwood, IN

Caden Curry recorded a career-high 11 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, and three quarterback sacks in top-ranked Ohio State’s 24-6 win over Washington.  Curry’s TFL total is the highest in a single game in Ohio State history, and the most by any FBS player this season.   The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Curry led a Buckeye defensive unit that held Washington to just 234 total yards, 61 on the ground.

Notes: It is the 15th time an Ohio State player has earned Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since October 30, 2022, when former defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau was honored.
