Alabama’s Amari Cooper and Arizona’s Scooby Wright III Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN

New Haven, CT – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending November 29.

About the Award: This is the 11th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.

                                               

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

AMARI COOPER, ALABAMA

Junior, Wide Receiver, Miami, FL/Northwestern

Amari Cooper had 13 receptions for a school-record 224 yards and scored three touchdowns as top-ranked Alabama defeated 15th-ranked Auburn, 55-44, in the Iron Bowl. Cooper caught scoring passes of 75, 39 and 17 yards as the Crimson Tide (11-1, 7-1 SEC West) clinched a spot in next weekend’s SEC title game.

 

Notes: Amari Cooper is the ninth Alabama player to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the second this season – quarterback Blake Sims was honored on September 21.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SCOOBY WRIGHT III, ARIZONA

Sophomore, Linebacker, Windsor, CA/Cardinal Newman

Scooby Wright III recorded 13 tackles (9 solo), including five for losses and two quarterback sacks as 12th-ranked Arizona defeated #13 Arizona State, 42-35, in the Territorial Cup. Wright also forced a fumble as the Wildcats (10-2, 7-2) clinched the Pac-12 South title.

 

Notes: Scooby Wright III is the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season (Oct. 26). He is also the fourth Arizona player to be honored since 2004.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
