Walter Camp 2016 Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team

Eastern Washington senior wide receiver Cooper Kupp headlines the 2016 Walter Camp Football Championship Subdivision All-America team.  The team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by the accounting and auditing firm, Marcum LLP.

2016 Walter Camp FCS All-America Team

Kupp is a repeat All-American, one of four players who have previously earned Walter Camp All-America honors.  Kupp led Eastern Washington to the FCS semifinals, hauling in 117 receptions for 1,700 yards and 17 touchdowns for the season.

Joining Kupp on the offense is junior quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe (Sam Houston State).  Briscoe passed for 4,602 yards (2nd in the nation) and a nation-leading 57 touchdowns this season for the Bearkats.

The FCS’ leading rusher with 1,799 yards, junior running back Chase Edmonds (Fordham) is on the team along with senior Tarik Cohen (North Carolina A&T).

Leading the defense is senior linebacker Christian Kuntz (Duquesne), a repeat All-America selection who has 24 tackles for loss on the season.   Junior defensive back Dee Delaney (The Citadel), a repeat honoree, leads the defensive secondary along with senior Donald Payne (Stetson), who returns to the All-America team after making it in 2014.

The nation’s sack leader, redshirt senior Karter Schult (Northern Iowa), and leading tackler, senior linebacker Dylan Cole (Missouri State), are on the All-America team.

In all, players from 11 different conferences and 22 institutions are represented on the 2016 Walter Camp FCS All-America team.

The Missouri Valley Conference has the most honorees with six, while Colonial Athletic Association has four.  Four schools, including FCS finalist James Madison, had two selections (The Citadel, Jacksonville State and Sam Houston State were the others).

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.  Visit www.waltercamp.org for more information.
