Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph and Utah LB Gionni Paul Named Walter Camp National FBS Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending November 7.

About the Award: This is the 12th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MASON RUDOLPH, OKLAHOMA STATE

Sophomore, Quarterback, Rock Hill, SC/Northwestern

Mason Rudolph completed 16-of-24 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns as 12th-ranked Oklahoma State defeated fifth-ranked TCU, 49-29. Rudolph connected on four of his scoring passes in the first half as the Cowboys improved to 9-0, 6-0 in the Big 12.

 

Notes: Mason Rudolph is the fifth OSU player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the first since former Comboy QB Clint Chelf on November 24, 2013.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GIONNI PAUL, UTAH

Senior, Linebacker, Winter Haven, FL/Kathleen

Gionni Paul recorded nine tackles, two quarterback sacks, one interception and recovered a fumble and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown as 13th-ranked Utah defeated Washington, 34-23 Paul’s all-around play on defense helped the Utes improve to 8-1, 5-1 in the Pac-12.

 

Notes: Gionni Paul is the third Utah player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, joining former Ute DB Eric Weddle (Sept. 24, 2006) and DE Derrick Shelby (Oct. 16, 2011).

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
