WCFF Names National Players of the Week for Week Ending Nov. 24

For Immediate Release: November 25, 2007

New Haven, Conn. – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending November 24. Please note: This is the final selection of the 2007 regular season.

About the Award: It was the fourth consecutive year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation honored one offensive and one defensive player as its national “Bowl Subdivision Player of the Week.” Selections were made each week during the regular season by a panel of national media members and publicized by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK DARREN McFADDEN, ARKANSAS, Junior, Running Back, North Little Rock, AR/Oak Grove HS Junior running back Darren McFadden rushed and passed Arkansas to a 50-48 overtime victory over top-ranked LSU on Friday. McFadden rushed for 206 yards (on 32 carries) and three touchdowns and passed for a 24-yard score to lead the Razorbacks (8-4,4-4 in SEC). Taking direct snaps in the “Wild Hog” formation, McFadden was a triple threat to run, hand off or pass and it paid great dividends. McFadden also broke his own school record for rushing yards in a season (1,725).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK LAWRENCE JACKSON, USC, Senior, Defensive End, Inglewood, CA/Inglewood HS Senior defensive end Lawrence Jackson had eight tackles (7 solo), four quarterback sacks and one forced fumble as 11th ranked USC kept its BCS bowl hopes alive with a 44-24 victory over sixth-ranked Arizona State on Thanksgiving evening. Jackson’s four sacks were the most by a USC player since 1989. With the win, the Trojans improved to 9-2, 6-2 in the Pac10.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp — a former Yale University athlete and football coach — is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation — a New Haven based all volunteer group — was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All America team.
