Harris (Boston College) and Kerrigan (Purdue) Named Walter Camp National Players of the Week
This is the sixth year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

New Haven, Conn. – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Bowl Championship Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending October 17.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MONTEL HARRIS, BOSTON COLLEGE
Sophomore, Running Back, Jacksonville, FL/Trinity Christian
Boston College running back Montel Harris set school records for rushing yards (264 yards) and rushing touchdowns (5) as the Eagles defeated ACC-rival North Carolina State, 52-20. Harris’ 264 yards (on 27 carries) broke the previous record of 253, set back in 1972 by Phil Bennett. Harris scored on runs of 2, 12, 10, 1 and 29 yards to lead Boston College, which improved to 5-2, 3-2 in the ACC.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RYAN KERRIGAN, PURDUE
Junior, Defensive End, Muncie, IN/Muncie Central
Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan recorded nine tackles, including four for losses, and three quarterback sacks, as the Boilermakers upset 7th-ranked Ohio State, 26-18. Kerrigan forced two fumbles and also recovered a fumble as Purdue earned its first win over a ranked opponent since the 2003 season.
Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
