Fresno State’s Derek Carr and Michigan State’s Denicos Allen Named Walter Camp National Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN

New Haven, CT – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending November 3.

 About the Award: This is the 10th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DEREK CARR, FRESNO STATE

Senior, Quarterback, Bakersfield, CA/Bakersfield Christian

Derek Carr completed 39-of-55 passes for 487 yards and three touchdowns as 16th-ranked Fresno State defeated Nevada, 41-23.  Carr did not throw an interception and added a rushing touchdown as the Bulldogs improved to 8-0 for the first time since 1989.  Carr also became Fresno State’s all-time leading passer with 10, 821 career yards.

 

NOTE:  It is the second time Derek Carr has earned Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week accolades – earning the honor on November 25, 2012. 

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DENICOS ALLEN, MICHIGAN

Senior, Linebacker, Hamilton, OH/Hamilton

Linebacker Denicos Allen recorded nine tackles, including three for losses, and two quarterback sacks as 24th-ranked Michigan State defeated rival Michigan, 29-6.  Allen’s play led a Spartan defense that allowed just 168 yards of total offense, including minus-48 yards rushing.  With the win, MSU improved to 8-1, 5-0 in the Big Ten.

 

NOTE: Denicos Allen is the second MSU player this season to garner Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining defensive end Shilique Calhoun (September 9).  Allen is the third Spartan overall to earn the honor since 2004.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
